The Vu Bar
The Vu Bar is a tool that assists reading on the computer screen.  It can be extremely helpful for students who experience difficulties with visual tracking.  It can be used on top of any text to help keep your place when reading.  The Vu Bar tool is about half way down the page on the link - click the picture below for the link.

Pointing Strategy
In this video, Michelle shares her pointing strategy used with a struggling 8 year old reader. This reader has difficulty in keeping his eyes on track of where he is reading - previously without this pointing strategy, he was unable to track from one line to the next. This pointing technique is done with a pen or pencil, as it is more precise than a finger and allows the teacher to point at exactly the time the word is read. Pointing on top also allows the student to see what is coming up next.

Free text to speech software
Free Natural Reader is a text to speech program that will read aloud text that is highlighted. This free program is a great way to help everyone on home or school computers.  The program will read emails, websites, docs, PDFs and more.  A paid version is available for better quality voices.  Click picture below for the link.

A Multiplication Grid
An easy way to modify maths!  Allow all students access to this grid.  Kids who need a reference for times tables will use it - and those who don't need it won't!  The correct answers provided by the grid act as a teaching mechanism, that is much more preferable to just guessing.  It also allows students who find the times tables difficult, a way to continue solving maths problems and to devote their effort to higher order mathematical thinking.  Click on picture to download.
